La Masse sector, to discover early in the morning off-piste
One of the most popular spots mentioned in our survey is La Masse, with its many off-piste routes. Ski instructors take particular pleasure in descending its slopes early in the morning, when they have just been groomed and are still benefiting from the gentle rays of the sun.
A number of names have come up in the Masse sector, such as the Dame Blanche black run, located further away and therefore less frequented by holidaymakers. Accessible from the top of the Masse ski lift, it is ideal for off-piste skiing. Others also mention the Rocher Noir piste, and its exposure to the cold, as well as the Lac Noir, for an even more authentic adventure.

When it comes to off-piste skiing, the Vallon du Lou has also been mentioned a few times by ESF instructors. Preserved, calm and wild, this area between Les Menuires and Val Thorens is now easily accessible from La Masse or Cime Caron. Once here, you'll find yourself facing an immense valley, both wide and silent.
Its impeccable snow quality makes it the perfect spot for nature lovers and thrill-seeking alike. Along the way, you can even stop off at the Lac du Lou refuge (2036 m) for a bite to eat at altitude, before putting your skis back on. For a change of pace, the Vallée des Encombres is another wilderness itinerary that you might also enjoy!
