Published on 04/02/2026 - Written by Nadège
If you've always dreamed of skiing off the beaten track, getting close to the peaks and trying out sealskins, ski touring is for you. With esf Les Menuires, there are several introductory courses and mountain outings on offer.

For the more adventurous, some of them can even take place at nightfall. Discover this activity with your family and friends and enjoy a timeless experience in the heart of the 3 Valleys thanks to our instructors!

Ski touring: a mountain activity for whom?

Under normal circumstances, a good level of skiing is recommended before venturing off the marked pistes. Ski touring exposes you to more dangers, as it is often done in fresh powder and on steep slopes.

With esf Les Menuires, even less experienced skiers can try their hand at it, as an instructor will accompany and guide you throughout your outing in the mountains. Only the star trek is not recommended for beginners. Class 2 is required for safety reasons.

How does a ski touring session work?

First, you'll meet your guide at the meeting point (La Croisette, Les Bruyères, etc.) to put the sealskins under your skis. This will enable you to make your way up the slopes without slipping, as these accessories grip the snow perfectly. Once you're equipped, you can set off on your tour.

During your outing, your esf guide will tell you all about the valley and its secrets, while showing you the right techniques for getting ahead. If necessary, he will introduce you to the safety equipment used off-piste. Once you've completed the ascent, you'll take off your skins and enjoy a beautiful descent all the way down: pure pleasure!

Please note: ski touring is always done in private lessons. Don't hesitate to sign up with friends or as a couple to make this experience even more wonderful in Les Menuires!

What equipment do you need for ski touring?

The equipment used for ski touring is not the same as for alpine skiing. First of all, you'll need an avalanche transceiver, a probe and a shovel for safety reasons. However, for simplicity's sake, this equipment is already provided by the ski school.

For their part, participants should bring their own size touring skis, suitable boots and sealskins. Without these, you won't be able to take part in the adventure, as this equipment is essential. Don't forget to visit the rental shops in Les Menuires if you need to.

Now that you know more, all you have to do is book your session online, from our website. Whether it's an introduction to ski touring, a more advanced experience or an outing under the stars, it's up to you to choose your next experience with the esf!
