"I was born here, I learned to ski here and I teach here".

A native of the Belleville valley, Audrey has been teaching skiing with the Les Menuires ESF for over 20 years. Her attachment to her resort has remained intact over the years. Over time, she has also developed other skills and passions, which now enable her to find a fully fulfilling balance.

A passion for skiing born gradually

Audrey went to school in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and then at Moûtiers secondary school, where she learned to ski from her father, a ski patroller, as well as from the ESF's Ski Détente programme. She took part in competition courses, but unlike many of her instructors, never joined the sports club.

At the age of 12, she joined the Ski Performance programme set up by the Les Menuires ESF, where she skied every weekend. This experience enabled her to progress technically and gain in confidence thanks to a stimulating atmosphere and coaches who were always encouraging. Determined, she decided a few years later to take the ski instructor diploma, which she passed in full in 2008.

Ski lessons given with patience

Audrey began teaching at the Piou-Piou Club in Les Menuires, alongside her course at the Centre de Formation aux Métiers de la Montagne in Thônes. In 2003, she had her first season as a full-time instructor at the Les Menuires ESF.

She loves teaching children to ski, seeing them progress and gain confidence. But she also loves coaching adults, helping them to overcome their fears, perfect their technique or simply rediscover the pleasure of skiing. Her teaching methods are based on listening, patience, encouragement and shared pleasure.

From skiing to sewing: a dual passion

Once the winter season is over, Audrey devotes herself to other activities. She works in the restaurant trade, as a secretary in the guides' office, on rope access and in the green spaces.

In 2016, she took up sewing to develop a quieter, more creative activity. She began by making hairbands, an accessory that she wears herself and adapts according to her desires. As time went by, the requests multiplied and she created her own brand, As de Pic, in 2018. From May to November, the instructor and seamstress works on custom orders and sells her creations (headbands, neckwraps and scrunchies) at summer markets and in selected boutiques.

Between sport and handiwork, Audrey has built up a harmonious daily routine. In Les Menuires, her favourite area is still La Masse. She loves the atmosphere, the scenery and the quality of the slopes. And if there's one slope that's particularly close to her heart, it's the Jerusalem. It reminds her of precious childhood memories: as a child, her grandfather often took her skiing there. For her, every run is a reminder of those simple, unforgettable moments she shared with him.
