Skiing and parenthood: how can you enjoy the slopes when you have a baby?

When you become a parent, some of your usual activities suddenly seem much more complex to organise. Fatigue, logistics and the specific needs of a toddler often get the better of you, leading you to put off organising a holiday or a simple weekend away.

What if we told you that it was possible to reconcile your passion for skiing with your new family life? The ESF Les Menuires offers a nursery service for babies from the age of 3 months, so you can enjoy the slopes with complete peace of mind.

A few precautions when taking your baby to a ski resort

Before going to Les Menuires, you can consult your paediatrician so that he can examine your child and give you the go-ahead to take him to altitude, particularly if he has respiratory problems or a medical history such as prematurity. Health professionals also recommend the following restrictions (for guidance only):

  • For babies aged 0-3 months: 1200 m altitude.
  • For babies aged between 3 and 6 months: 1500 m.
  • For babies aged 6 months to 1 year: between 1500 and 1700 m.
  • For toddlers aged 1 to 2 years: between 1700 and 2000 m.

Throughout the climb, remember to take regular breaks so that your child experiences the changes in atmospheric pressure gently.

The right equipment is also essential to protect your baby from the cold and damp during your skiing holiday. Layers of clothing (thermal clothing, insulating clothing and a wetsuit) will keep him comfortable throughout the day. Finally, complete your baby's outfit with snow boots and sunglasses, not forgetting sun cream!

Baby skiing: make the most of the nursery at the ESF Les Menuires

Because we know that a parent who enjoys their day is a parent who feels reassured, our ski school offers a childcare service specially designed for toddlers aged 3 to 30 months. Available on a half-day or full-day basis, this Club Piou-Piou area welcomes your babies in a safe and caring environment thanks to a team trained in early childhood.

Early-learning activities, nap and rest time, meals (optional): your child can enjoy the day at his or her own pace while you take a snowboard lesson or ski the 3 Vallées ski area.

What activities can you enjoy with your baby in the mountains?

Would you like to take your child to the nursery for half a day? Take advantage of the rest of the day to spend some fun time with your child, with activities adapted to their age. From the age of 6 months, you can take your child tobogganing and give them their first gliding sensations, or take them for a walk in the snow as soon as they can walk.

At the age of 1, your child can take a cable car ride at a moderate altitude and admire the immensity of the landscape at your side. Later, from the age of 31 months, they can join the Kid's Club and play with children their own age. Book the services best suited to your needs now, to ensure your arrival in Les Menuires goes without a hitch!
