Advice for riders
Control the risks :
· The avalanche risk forecast (BRA) will be of use to you. Don't hesitate to ask a ski patrolman for more inforamtion.
· Remember that a forest doesn't always stop an avalanche.
· Above all, forget going off-piste in bad weather. Too bad if you can't come back another year....
· Flags denoting the avalanche risk :
o Yellow flag : Level 1 : weak to - Level 2 : limited
o Checked flag : Level 3 : medium to - Level 4 : strong
o Black flag : Level 5 : very strong
And off-piste...
Above all, NEVER, NEVER ALONE.
· You must have the following equipment :
o An ARVA (equipment that helps find avalanche victims). Wear it under your clothes (after checking the batteries work). Don't leave the pistes if you don't know how it works ( an instructor can show you). Don't forget that an ARVA doesn't stop an avalanche or keep you from being save.
o A shovel
o A probe
· Don't try to copy freeriders you may have seen on television or in photos. These are professionals who under go extreme training and are very careful about where they go.
